Mary joined the centre in 2009, before that she worked in several marketing and innovation management jobs at the Dutch telecom provider KPN. She was part of the pioneers that introduced mobile telecommunication in the Netherlands and later in her career introduced several mobile managed services for healthcare and transport. David has published 29 books, and more than 220 articles and book chapters. His work has been translated into 15 languages. Wolfie Christl is a researcher, game developer and digital rights activist with a focus on the social impact of information technology. He is the founder of Cracked Labs, based in Vienna/Austria. In 2011 he co-created Data Dealer - a serious/educational game about personal data, surveillance and privacy, which won numerous prizes like the e-virtouses Serious Games Award (France) or the Games for Change Award (USA). He has been featured in the New York Times, Forbes and many other media from all over the world. Leo Pekkala has a long experience in research and development in higher education, media education, teacher training and school development sectors both in the developing and in the developed country context. He has worked in media education, teacher education and development cooperation. Together with his colleagues he developed the first MA –level degree program in Media Education in Finland. Dr. Pekkala works as the Deputy Director of the National Audiovisual Institute and as the Head of its Department for Media Education and Audiovisual Media, a government authority under the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Sara Pereira is Associate Professor at the Communication Sciences Department at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) and researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre. She has been teaching media literacy since 1993 at undergraduate and post graduate courses. She has also been coordinating several research projects on media literacy and on children, young people and media. She is President of Media Literacy Section of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences. Currently, she is director of the Master Degree on Communication, Citizenship and Education and head of the Department of Communication Sciences.

Dr Ida Poettinger has worked for many years as a media educator and published books and articles about media education. She implemented media literacy programs in school and teacher training on behalf of the Ministryof Education of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany and was employed at the Office of Communication (OFCOM)of Baden-Wuerttemberg. She is president of the Association for Media Education in Germany (GMK). She has taken part in several European projects on media literacy. She holds a PhD in Educational Science from the University of Freiburg.

Mari Sol Pérez Guevara is the official in charge of media literacy matters at the Directorate-General CONNECT of the European Commission since March 2015. She has a Degree in Law and a Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Pontificia de Commillas in Madrid and a Master's Degree on European Economic studies from the College of Europe. She joined the European Commission in 2000. Since 2003, she has been working in the area of audiovisual policy, with a focuss on film heritage.

Everybody has access to a camera and share pictures instantly on the internet and the social media. But not everybody is a photographer and speaks this visual language. My main interest is visual literacy for children. By offering creative and educational activities, children learn to speak consciously this language. This varies from fun workshops to learn 'painting with light' up to founded methods to use photography in teaching daily classes such as mathematics, grammar,... Pablo de Kever, a green VW taxi, is the mascot in the communication towards the children.

An Irish national with a background in remedial linguistics, Sally first worked in radio and television in Ireland as a presenter and producer for the national broadcaster, RTE. Since 1990, she has been working in all sorts of contexts involving the use of media to support learning. She is one of the directors of Belgian educational media company ATiT and one of the founders of the MEDEA Awards. Sally, initiates and runs cross-border projects related to media-supported learning, gives training courses on related topics and does her best to share her enthusiasm for media and the role it can play in learning with everyone she meets.

Menno Weijs (1981, Netherlands) is Programme Officer at the European Cultural Foundation and is working on the programmes "Doc Next Network" and "Connected Action for the Commons". Graduated in 2006 from Groningen University in History and Journalism, he specialised in the role of the media in national identification processes on the Balkans. He is interested in the way media define borders and spaces, centers and peripheries – literally, but also in people’s minds. In his professional life he was always challenging these constructions by facilitating cultural exchange and scaling up of local practices to a trans-local and European level.
